In 1976, Chungliang Al Huang and Living Tao Foundation announced the creation of Lan Ting Institute. Its purpose is to promote cultural arts and academic exchange programs between East and West.

Lan Ting is based on a celebrated gathering of scholars, poets and artists in ancient China. Lan Ting Institute 2010 has just taken place in Wuyi Shan, a World Heritage Site of extraordinary beauty, located in Fujian Province, China.

At these gatherings, students from around the world (representing ten countries in 2008), join a faculty of artists and scholars hand picked by Huang. Our curriculum integrates Tai Ji, brush calligraphy, music, poetry, and history, as well as excursions to areas of historical interest.
